Firing Pin is committed to providing a safe, responsible, and professional environment for firearms ownership, education, and training. Through memberships, the member lounge, and scheduled events, our goal is to build a community of like-minded people who take firearm safety, legal compliance, and personal responsibility with the utmost seriousness, all while receiving high-quality service.
Founder’s Story
For decades, I worked as a Realtor—often placing myself in situations that, in hindsight, carried significant risk. I met potential clients I did not know and hosted open houses publicly advertised to anyone, frequently while I was alone. At the time, these were accepted practices in my profession. Today, I recognize how vulnerable they made me.
For many years, I wrestled with the decision to own and carry a firearm. I understood the responsibility involved and questioned whether it was the right choice. After careful consideration and with the encouragement of my husband, I decided to move forward.
I purchased my first firearm without fully understanding what I needed or how to confidently use it. I followed every requirement established by the state of Iowa:
- I completed the permit-to-carry course and paid the required fees
- I submitted documentation, was fingerprinted, and received my permit
- We had a secure gun safe in place
- I selected a firearm and appropriate ammunition
And yet, one important question remained: What comes next?
For years, my firearm remained unloaded in our home safe. While we occasionally practiced at our farm, those opportunities were limited and inconsistent. What was missing was access to ongoing education, structured training, and an environment that supported skill development and confidence.
As I searched for firearm classes and professional training, I discovered a significant gap. In Iowa, opportunities were limited—few classes, few locations, and narrow scheduling options. It became clear that if I was struggling to find reliable, accessible training, many others were likely facing the same challenge.
That realization became the foundation for this business. When I first shared the idea with my husband, it came as a surprise. But together, we recognized the opportunity to create something better—an inclusive, professional training environment designed to serve individuals at every stage of their firearm journey.
Our mission is to provide high-quality education, comprehensive training, and a facility built on safety, responsibility, and respect. Whether you are new to firearms or seeking to advance your skills, our goal is to exceed expectations and ensure every individual leaves informed, confident, and prepared.

Indoor lanes with automated target retrieval, so you set your distance without ever leaving the booth. Ear and eye protection is required and available on-site, and a Range Officer is on the floor whenever the line is hot.
Classroom

A dedicated classroom for training, group instruction, and private bookings, with seating, a whiteboard, and a large display for presentations. Available to rent at $300 per hour when not in use for scheduled instruction
Retail

Range check-in and the retail floor sit right inside the front door. Targets, ear protection, and eye protection are available for purchase, along with rental firearms for shooters 21 and older
